- Cheetahs are the world’s fastest land animal, capable of reaching speeds of up to 70 mph, nearly as fast a car.
- Unlike all other big cats, cheetahs cannot roar. This is because of the hyoid bone in the cheetah’s neck.
- Other big cats have hyoid bones made of two pieces, which enable roaring. The cheetah’s hyoid bone, however, is one single piece.
- Cheetah cubs spend a long time with their mothers as they learn to hunt. A cheetah mother will bring a small, live antelope back to her cubs so they can chase and catch it.
- Unlike most other cats, cheetahs prefer to hunt during the day, particularly during the early morning or early evening hours

The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) has been the leading voice of conservation in Africa for nearly 60 years. Its mission is to ensure that wildlife and wild lands thrive in modern Africa.
