If you live in beautiful British Columbia, here is a mini guide to the holy grail of summer destinations: Tofino and Ucluelet. It’s put together by no less than our Experiential Strategist, Alex Lam, who knows a thing or 12 about taking travel + food to the next level. Bookmark this page before you go to Canada’s famed surf town. It’s got some choice hiking spots, and two Nature’s Path recipes you’ll be using all summer long.
Where to hike:
Willowbrae Trail Just off of the Tofino Ucluelet Highway is an easy, storybook wooded trail that forks down into to two pristine, nearly secluded beaches: Halfmoon Bay and Florencia Bay.
Halfmoon Bay is accessed through a short but steep flight of well-maintained stairs and boardwalks (characterized by charmingly carved half moons), and boasts crystal clear, aquamarine waters, a small rocky lagoon, and soft sand. Perfect for a day spent relaxing in near total privacy.
Florencia Bay is one of the most stunning, secluded spots to take in the sunset. Wide panoramic views of the water, nearby woods, and dramatic waves perfectly frames changing fairy floss hued skies at dusk. Be sure to bring a flashlight to make your way back up Willowbrae Trail after the sun sets!
Where to stay: check out the countless
Airbnbs in the area and live like a local!
What to bring: Aside from your long weekend essentials, don’t forget to bring layers, hiking shoes, hair ties, beach blankets, and plenty of snacks!
What to eat: Two delicious Nature's Path recipes, best enjoyed beachside:
Overnight Golden Turmeric and Coconut Cacao Oat Mandala Bowls for pre-surf fuel, and
Summer Berry Campfire Crisp, for cozying down at sunset.
