Richmond, BC (September 25, 2018) – Leaving the earth better than you found it can seem like a lofty task, but it’s Nature’s Path Food’s reason for being. Today, the organic breakfast and snack food company announced its next step towards protecting the planet: a partnership with Bullfrog Power, Canada’s leading green energy provider. The new partnership will increase Nature’s Path’s total annual financial investment in renewable energy by 117 per cent.
“It’s very exciting for us to drive investment in renewable energy in our own backyard,” says Jyoti Stephens, Vice President of People, Culture and Mission at Nature’s Path. “We hope our partnership with Bullfrog Power will demonstrate the real and increasing demand that Canadians have for a clean energy future, together.”
For every megawatt hour of energy used at the company’s British Columbia-based corporate head office and manufacturing facility, Bullfrog Power ensures a megawatt hour of 100 per cent renewable electricity is put onto the grid on Nature’s Path’s behalf. Bullfrog’s green electricity comes from a blend of wind and low-impact hydro power sourced from new Canadian renewable energy facilities, with at least 50 per cent sourced directly from Nature’s Path’s home region.
“How we leave the earth is our collective legacy,” continued Stephens. “It’s up to all of us to try and make a difference, no matter how large or small.”
Nature’s Path operates with a commitment to sustainability with the goal to be climate neutral by 2020. Part of this commitment is raising awareness for issues that the company believes impacts both planet and people. On May 29, Nature’s Path shut down their global website to protest a local pipeline expansion and called for the Canadian government to reduce the country’s dependence on fossil fuels by investing in a low-carbon economy. Partnerships with organizations like Bullfrog Power are just one of the ways that Nature’s Path is doing their part, and they call to other businesses and communities to join them.
The company’s path to contribute to a future low-carbon economy ranges from supporting green energy projects throughout North America, to using all organic ingredients in its products, preventing over 19,000 tons of synthetic fertilizers from being used on farmland in 2017 alone. All of the company’s manufacturing plants, based in both Canada and the United States, are Zero Waste Certified and Nature’s Path was the first cereal company in North America to receive this designation.
