In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to overlook where our food comes from. We often prioritize convenience over knowing the origin of the ingredients we consume. But as we become more disconnected from the source of our food, we lose touch with the land that sustains us. Asking the question "where does our food come from?" can bring us closer to the earth and help us make informed decisions about what we eat. By understanding the journey of our food from farm to plate, we can connect with the farmers, their land, and the environment.
Today, I went to my local farmer’s market to deepen that connection to food, to get berries, kale, and some flowers for the table. I’ll show you a fun smoothie bowl recipe that I make almost everyday! But first, let’s talk about the difference between conventional and organic farming.
Industrial, conventional farming practices are hurting our land, the farmers who tend to it, and all those who eat the harvest from it. Conventional farming often relies on synthetic chemical interventions like toxic pesticides and synthetic fertilizers to grow crops quickly and efficiently. Unfortunately, these practices can harm the farmers who work the land, damage the soil, and contaminate the food we eat. Organic and regenerative organic farming, on the other hand, prioritize building healthy soil and avoiding these interventions. By choosing organic, we support a healthier planet and better working conditions for farmers.
Nature’s Path Organic is committed to leaving the Earth better than they found it. They use their food to inspire climate action and implement sustainable solutions, such as addressing climate change, fighting food insecurity, and protecting soil health by always using and sourcing organic ingredients. Their “Eat Well Do Good” program supports food banks across the country, and their “Gardens for Good” program supports community gardens, providing fresh organic food to its members.
Now, let's get to the recipe! This kale and berry smoothie bowl is the perfect way to start your day. It's packed with nutritious ingredients and topped with Nature's Path Organic granola for a yummy crunch.
Here's what you'll need:
To make the smoothie bowl, simply blend the kale, frozen banana, frozen berries, seeds, and almond milk until smooth. Then, pour the smoothie into a bowl and top with your desired toppings.
Choosing organic is not only better for our health, but it's also better for the planet. By supporting organic and regenerative organic farming practices, we can all make a difference. So why not start your day with a delicious and nutritious smoothie bowl topped with Nature's Path Organic granola? Your taste buds and the planet will thank you.
