Protect Our Right to Choose: Sign Petition e-6768 and Unmask GMOs

A Letter from Arran Stephens
Co- Founder of Nature’s Path Organic Foods

October 2025

Dear Friends,

At Nature’s Path Organic Foods, we’ve been pioneers in the organic movement for more than 40 years. As a proudly independent, Canadian-owned, family-run company, we’ve always believed in producing food that nourishes both people and the planet. Our family of brands—including Love Child Organics, Love Crunch Granola, Que Pasa, and Anita’s Organic Mill—reflects our deep-rooted commitment to sustainability, transparency, and organic integrity.

Based in Vancouver, BC with over 800 passionate team members across all our facilities, we continue to lead with purpose, driven by a shared vision of a food system grounded in respect for nature and future generations.

As co-founder of Nature’s Path Organic Foods, I’ve been a steward of organic practices for many decades — not just because it’s better for our health, but because it represents a deep respect for nature, for truth, and for future generations.

That’s why I’m writing to you today — as a father, grandfather, and lifelong advocate for food transparency — with deep concern and a call to action.

In September, a Parliamentary e-petition was launched calling once again on the Canadian government to protect our right to know -- a right we have been denied for far too long -- and require mandatory labelling of all genetically engineered foods, including those created through newer gene-editing techniques like CRISPR. I urge you to sign it: Petition e-6768.

This issue is personal for me. I’ve long advocated for GMO labelling, and it’s alarming how Health Canada has quietly stepped back from regulating many gene-edited foods — now allowed on shelves without safety assessments, government oversight, or even a label. A growing body of evidence connects GMOs with health problems, environmental damage and violation of farmers’ and consumers’ rights. And they are being released unlabeled, unidentified and unregulated.

Let me be clear: this isn’t about fear. It’s about informed choice, democratic accountability, and protecting our right to know what’s in our food.

The Canadian organic standards forbid the use of GMOs and gene editing — not only because of the harm they cause, but because we believe in food grown with integrity, not in a lab. If gene-edited products are going to be part of our food system, then the absolute minimum we must demand is transparency.

The government’s decision to offload regulatory responsibility to the very companies developing these products is irresponsible and undemocratic. Canadians deserve better.

That’s why I stand in full support of Petition e-6768, and with organizations like the Canadian Biotechnology Action Network and Kids Right to Know, who have fought tirelessly to protect our right to choose.

Add your name. Raise your voice. Let’s protect the integrity of our food system, together. Please sign the petition here by November 3, 2025.

Sincerely,

Arran Stephens Co-Founder,
